Week Notes 2021/1
Sun Jan 10, 2021
Introduction
A new year and an another attempt at week notes.
The Notes
- I started a twelve-week half marathon program because it’s a distance I’ve not yet ran. The furthest distance I’ve covered is ~17km and that was back in September. I have a concern that the program I’m following is too gentle, but if that’s the case then I’ll likely be fine with the plan and not acquire any niggles, which will allow me to do something else after.
- I have recently been enjoying rereading parts of M John Harrison’s blog. In future weeks I’ll link to some highlights of my explorations.
- I have been continuing to work on some small fiction projects after work hours.
- Over the holidays I think I’ve found a way of working on prose that’s comfortable and sustainable
- After Wednesday I made very slow progress and this weekend has been a bit of a write off, but allowably so.
- After reading Paul Graham Raven’s post, The Practice, about Morning Pages last week, I started writing them and this week continued. Although, not always in the morning. The main reason for me attempting these is mostly as an incentive to wake up earlier and get out of bed.
- I didn’t really get out of bed and I skipped Thursday and Friday
- I attended the Nottingham edition of Homebrew Website Club, which is where I started this post.
- I signed up for an account at chess.com
- This week’s coffee is from Square Mile Coffee Roasters and is their seasonal filter blend.
- So far, I’ve not brewed a bad v60 or aeropress from it, so I’m happy with it and considering reordering it.
- I also bought a new Hario combined brewer and server because reasons.
- On Monday, I cooked katsu cauliflower steaks, which was delicious
- On Monday, we watched Star Trek: Deep Space 9 S6E7 “You are Cordially Invited”.
- It’s an okay episode. I tolerated it.
- On Tuesday, we started watching A History of Swearing on Netflix. It’s okay.
- On Friday, we watched The Bourne Identity, which I’d seen years ago, and J hadn’t watched before.
- I am finishing a reread of M John Harrison’s Empty Space, which continues to impress me in any possible way.
- When I ordered the new Hario v60 brewer I also bought a copy of Umberto Eco’s Six Walks in the Fictional Woods
- As a household, J may already have a copy of of this, but it’s probably locked in her inaccessible office.
