Week Notes 2021/2
Wed Jan 13, 2021
Introduction
Notes for the week of 11th through 17th of January 2021.
The Notes
- Week two of the half marathon program. It went well on Tuesday and okay on Thursday. Today, Sunday, was mostly fine, but troubled with the problem of all Sunday runs in the morning of being hungry. The weekly distances are creeping up slowly to what I was comfortable with by mid-summer in 2020.
- My running shoes are taking a beating and might need replacing in a month or two, as some foot pain is starting to develop.
- I haven’t done anything climbing related since December. I’d like to spend a lunchtime next week traversing one of the local granite walls.
- This week’s coffee is from Artisan Roast and is their San Francisco coffee from Costa Rica.
- I bought it from Cult of Coffee who have now closed for the duration of tighter lock down rules.
- On Monday, I cooked some pre-made vegan meat balls in a quickly conjured up tomato sauce and served with spaghetti.
- On Monday, we watched Star Trek: Deep Space 9 S6E8 “Resurrection”.
- It’s bad episode and easily one of the worst of the series.
- On Thursday night, I ordered Roots Kitchen take away. I had a BBQ hot dog type thing. Our order was confused at their end, so they sent us some seitan dirty fries instead of the curry fries we’d ordered. As always, it was delicious.
- On Saturday night I cooked a vegan menemen.
- I read Umberto Eco’s Six Walks in the Fictional Woods.
- I finished reading M John Harrison’s novel Empty Space.
- No, I don’t understand it, but I do think very highly of it.
- I am becoming addicted to chess puzzles.
- I have not written enough fiction this week, but did spend more time reading fiction than usual.
- At work, I filled in my performance review for the year.
- Last year was extremely static. The last couple have felt professionally stagnant.
- At work, I also closed off a long-standing task involving a piece of software I despise for both its necessity and the majority of the architectural decisions it makes. If I can spend a month not thinking about it then I’ll consider myself lucky.
